Bikes for Books

The Bikes for Books Program is a reading incentive program between Masonic Lodges and the local schools and community.  Students who successfully achieve the reading goals will have an opportunity to be awarded a bike and a helmet.   The Bikes for Books Program is the fastest growing community program with $90,000 in combined expenditures between Masonic Lodges and the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation’s Community Charities Program over the past six years.

For Lodges:

Bikes for Books is a self-contained outreach program between a Lodge and its local schools/school district. The Lodge can determine the specifics of the program, including rules of the contest, budget, etc. The MMCF has created a handbook that can provide you and your volunteers with guidelines on how to manage the program, creative ideas to make it memorable and successful, and hints on best practices such as publicity.

The MMCF does not provide direct funding for a Bikes for Books program. However, Lodges may apply for community charities matching grants to offset the expenses related to a Bikes for Books program.
